We all grew up with Kurt Vonnegut... This is very sad news. He was much more than "one trippy writer", he was an institution to free thought, and was always an opposing opinion that dates back the McCarthy era... He did a lot to open my mind, and I think those of many others. Go look at a Grateful Dead album's song credits: Ice Nine Publishing... Guess where Ice Nine came from.

May you be at rest now, my unwitting mentor!

Farewell... :(

Another great human being and writer gone. Didn't Jerry buy the film rights to Sirens of Titan once upon a time?
So it goes.

Yes, Jerry Garcia owned the movie rights to Sirens of Titan for many years, but it became one of those things "left on the shelf collecting dust," as it says in Days Between.

For my generation in particular, bibliophiles who came of age as readers in the 1970's, Vonnegut was on virtually everyone's short list of favorites authors. A mad, wonderful genius.

Indeed Jerry did. Called it one of his favorite books ever and really wanted to make a film out of it, but....

"...all the things I planned to do I only did half way, tomorrow will be Sunday borne of rainy Saturday..."

Hey Cush

A dude who survived the bombing of Dresden and could write about time travel after that is "One Trippy Writer"in my opinion. I am glad you and some other Heads were able to expand on the original post.

didn't catch this story in the news reels ... but all threads must end, even those made up of sinew and bone; Vonnegut was not one of my favourite authors, but i respected the hell out of his words, he was a voice that couldn't be ignored; glad that you, Cush, found something in his words to bring out a response; he is gone but his words carry on ... i find this one apropos lately:

"We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be."

~ Vonnegut, 'Mother Night'

I just read about our loss. I grew up reading his works. Another one to stand up to eternity has retired. A favorite KV scene attached...

So it goes.

One of my favorite authors ever.

Everyone on planet Earth should read "God Bless You Mr. Rosewater."

It would be a better place for it.
